The sensor operates using the infrared photo-interrupter principle, where the IR LED continuously emits infrared light toward the receiver. As the slots or holes in an encoder disc pass through the sensor, the infrared beam is alternately blocked and transmitted, producing a series of digital pulses. These pulses are processed by the onboard LM393 comparator, providing clean and stable output signals suitable for speed measurement and motion detection.
