The 74LS193 is a high-speed 4-bit synchronous binary Up/Down Counter IC designed for digital counting and sequencing applications. It is capable of counting both upward and downward in binary from 0 to 15 (modulo-16), making it suitable for a wide range of digital logic circuits. The IC features separate clock inputs for count-up and count-down operations, allowing easy implementation of bidirectional counting without additional logic.

The counter operates synchronously, meaning all output bits change simultaneously on the rising (LOW-to-HIGH) edge of the selected clock input, ensuring accurate and glitch-free counting. The Clear (CLR) input asynchronously resets the counter outputs to zero, while the Parallel Load (PL) input allows a preset 4-bit value to be loaded directly into the counter for flexible counting operations.

The 74LS193 also provides Terminal Count Up (TCU) and Terminal Count Down (TCD) outputs, enabling simple cascading of multiple counters to create higher-bit counting systems without requiring extra external circuitry.
