WORKING PRINCIPLE

The MQ-8 operates using a metal oxide semiconductor (MOS) sensing element combined with an internal heating element. When hydrogen gas is present, it interacts with the sensor’s sensitive material, causing a change in electrical resistance. This resistance change is converted into an electrical signal that reflects the concentration of hydrogen gas. The module provides this information as an analog voltage output and also compares it with an adjustable threshold to generate a digital HIGH or LOW output. An onboard potentiometer or adjustable load resistor allows fine-tuning of sensitivity and detection range for different application requirements.
