WORKING PRINCIPLE

The MQ-5 operates using a metal oxide semiconductor (MOS) sensing element combined with an internal heating element. When combustible gases such as LPG, natural gas, or hydrogen are present, they interact with the sensor’s sensitive surface, causing a change in electrical resistance. This resistance variation is converted into an electrical signal that reflects the gas concentration. The module outputs this signal as an analog voltage and also compares it against an adjustable threshold to produce a digital HIGH or LOW output. An onboard potentiometer allows users to fine-tune sensitivity and detection limits according to the application requirements.
